Shahana Hanif is in her second year in the New York City Council, where she is fighting to make the vision of an anti-racist, feminist city a reality. In City Hall, she has fought for our immigrant communities, introduced groundbreaking legislation to tackle the climate crisis, secured reproductive rights at the City level, and worked as the Co-Chair of the Progressive Caucus to organize her colleagues to fight back against the Mayor’s austerity agenda. Now, she’s running for re-election because our fight for a better City is far from over.

As the first Muslim woman and first Bangladeshi elected to the New York City Council, Shahana has broken down barriers and smashed glass ceilings since the day she was sworn in. She is an influential voice in government, securing $1 million for abortion support, $5 million for adult literacy programs, and $10 million for childcare for undocumented families. She introduced groundbreaking legislation to mandate a universal composting program, enact paid sick leave for gig workers, and strengthen the prohibition on NYPD coordination with ICE. Shahana has been fighting for our district and our movement every day in City Hall—and she needs our help to win reelection.

As Council Member, Shahana has never backed down from an important fight—from pushing back against the privatization of healthcare for retired City workers to holding the Adams administration accountable to ensure asylum seekers are treated with dignity. She stands up for everyone in our community and works tirelessly to deliver for all of us. We don’t need a complacent corporate Democrat in City Hall; we need someone who’s proud to be a progressive and fights for the values we all hold dear. Join our fight today, and let's send Shahana back to City Hall.
